In this game you can see all four hands on the table, and bet on any of them to win or lose at any stage of the game; pre-deal, after the deal, after the flop and after the turn. There are no betting limits, and the minimum stake is just £1.

Remember, you're not actually playing the card game, you're betting on the outcome of other people playing the market.

The result of the game is determined by which hand is best within the predetermined rank system. See the Rules

FAQ

You can view the Exchange Games FAQ here.

Each game of Texas Hold 'em may have up to four rounds of betting. Use your skill and judgment to recognise the best or worst hands and place your bets to Back or Lay a hand. You can BACK a hand to win or LAY one to lose.

In this game, you are betting against other players by either Backing one or more opened Lay bets (place by another/other player(s)) or by Laying one or more opened Back bets (placed by other players).

The bets which are matched with other bets are called "matched" bets and the bets which are not yet matched with other bets are called unmatched bets. A bet needs to be matched in order to be eligible to be won or lost.

The bets which remain unmatched at the end of a betting round will be automatically deleted when the next round begins.

Back

The Back bets are those placed by clicking one of the Blue odds buttons. By Backing a hand, you are betting that that hand will win. You can also ask for better odds, by specifying your own odds when you place the bet. If there will be no bet(s) to be matched against your bet, then your bet will remain unmatched until the system will be able to automatically match it or until your unmatched bet will be deleted.

The Back bets are matched against the Lay bets.

Lay

The Lay bets are those placed by clicking one of the Pink odds buttons. By Laying a hand, you are betting that that hand will not win. You can also ask for better odds, by specifying your own odds when you place the bet. If there will be no bet(s) to be matched against your bet, then your bet will remain unmatched until the system will be able to automatically match it or until your unmatched bet will be deleted.

The Lay bets are matched against the Back bets.

Liquidity

The liquidity is the amount of money available for you to bet (back/lay) at the corresponding odds on the corresponding selection. You can bet all or part of that amount. If you bet more than the amount shown, the system will place the remaining stake as an unmatched bet available for others to take.

You will see the liquidity in the currency of your account if you are logged in and in GBP (£) if you are logged out.
The liquidity is displayed on the odds buttons of each selection on which you can bet.

Placing a bet

  1. Choose the hand that you wish to back/lay and click on on a corresponding Back/Lay odds button.
  2. [Optional] Choose your Odds if you are not happy with the default odds.
  3. Select your stake by clicking on a chip or typing the amount you wish to bet into the stake field.
  4. Click on Place bet.
  5. Confirm your bet (if you have the 'Confirm Bet' flag checked - you can change that from Settings.)
  6. Your bet and its status (matched/unmatched) will be shown on your Betslip, under My Bets.

Before the end of each round you will be able to place as many bets as you want to and you will be able to change or cancel your unmatched bets from that round as well.

At the end of the game the bets will be automatically settled and the winnings bets will be paid.

The rank system that determines the winning hand is as follows, with the highest first:
This game is based on the poker game commonly known as 'Texas Hold'em'.

Each game begins with 13 cards being dealt face down from a shuffled pack. 8 of the cards are paired to form 4 separate hands (these cards in the pairs are known as hole cards). The remaining 5 cards form a pool of community cards.

A first round of betting takes place whilst all cards are face down (the deal). Players bet on which individual hand they think will win the game. Bets can be placed to Back or Lay each hand.

At the end of the first round of betting, unmatched bets are cancelled and the pairs of cards forming the individual hands are simultaneously turned face up. There is then a second round of betting. Again, bets can Back or Lay each individual hand within the game (Pre-flop).

Each round of betting lasts for a set period of time. This period is indicated by the counter in the center of the screen. (Please note the counter is indicative only).

At the end of the second round of betting unmatched bets are cancelled and the first three of the community cards are turned face up ('the flop'). Another round of betting begins.

The end of the third round of betting unmatched bets are cancelled before the fourth card from the community cards is turned face up. (This card is sometimes known as the 'turn'.) Another round of betting then commences.

The fourth and final round of betting finishes with unmatched bets cancelled before the fifth and final of the community cards is turned face up (this is sometimes known as the 'river').

The result of the game is determined by which hand is best within the predetermined rank system. Should two hands be of equal standing then Dead Heat rules will apply.

Each hand may consist of the following:

  • Both hole cards and three community cards
  • One hole card and four community cards
  • All five community cards

Royal Flush:
Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten of the same suit.
Straight Flush:
Straight with all five cards in the same suit.
Four of a Kind:
Four cards of the same number or face value ('quads').
Full House:
Three cards of one number or face value and two cards of another number or face value. If more than one player has a full house, the full house with the highest ranking three of a kind ('trips') wins.
Flush:
Five cards of the same suit. If there is more than one flush, the hand with the highest card(s) wins.
Straight:
Five cards in sequence. Cards can be in any suit. An Ace can be used in the highest straight (10, J, Q, K, A) and the lowest straight (A, 2, 3, 4, 5). If there is more than one straight, the hand with the highest card in the straight wins.
Three of a Kind:
Three cards of the same number or face value ('trips').
Two Pair:
If two players have two pair, the hand with the highest pair wins. If they have the same high pair, whoever has the second highest pair wins. If they have the same two pair, whoever has the highest fifth card ('kicker') wins.
One Pair:
Two cards of the same number or face value. If two players have the same pair, the highest outside card(s) wins.
High Card:
The hand with the highest card(s) wins.

Should two or more hands have cards or combinations of cards with equal standing and value then the value of the remaining cards in that hand is used to determine the winner (sometimes know as the kicker). Should one or more hands still be of equal values then dead heat rules will apply to the winning hands (sometimes known as 'splitting the pot').

Cash Out is a product from Betfair that allows you to lock in a profit or loss before waiting for the game round to finish.

BetFair Cash Out

Important Points:

  • A Cash Out possibility will be offered only in the rounds in which no bets are placed. If you are placing a bet in a round, no Cash Out will be offered afterwards in that round.
  • The Cash Out will be offered at the beginning of a round and you will have the possibility to choose to take it or to choose not to take it.
  • If you have placed bets on more than one selection, you will receive in the next round(s) a Cash Out offer calculated based on all your bets placed and matched in the game.
  • Cash Out may not be available at times where there is not enough liquidity in the game, on the game selections.
  • Cash Out automatically places bets on the Betfair Texas Hold’em game to lock in a position. The Cash Out value is the amount you would receive if you were to make a successful Cash Out.
  • Cash Out amounts are not guaranteed as they are based on the live game where prices and liquidity are constantly moving. This means you may receive more than indicated, or your Cash Out may be unsuccessful or only partially successful.
  • Any reduction in exposure will be credited back to your account after placing a successful cash out and any profit made on the game will be paid when the bets are settled (at the end of a round or at the end of the game).
  • The Cash Out opportunity will be offered only when there is an opportunity to cash out using bets with a stake higher than the minimum stake of the game.
  • Please note that the Cash Out calculations do not include the settled bets on the in play game – in other words, the calculations do not include the bets placed on the Eliminated hands.
